What is A/B Testing?

Comparing two versions of an email element to determine which performs better.

A/B testing (split testing) sends different versions to portions of your list, measures results, then sends the winner to the remainder. It's the scientific method for email optimization.

Common elements to test: - Subject lines (most impactful) - Send times - From name - Preheader text - CTA button color/text - Email length - Personalization

For valid results, test one variable at a time with a large enough sample size. Most ESPs recommend 1,000+ recipients per variant for statistical significance.

Examples

  • Test "50% off" vs "Half price" subject lines
  • Test send time: 9am vs 2pm vs 7pm
  • Test "Shop Now" vs "Get Yours" CTA buttons
