What is List Segmentation?

Dividing your email list into smaller groups based on shared characteristics or behaviors.

Segmentation allows you to send more relevant emails to specific audience subsets. Segmented campaigns see 14% higher open rates and 100% higher click rates than non-segmented campaigns.

Common segmentation criteria include: - **Demographics**: Age, location, job title - **Behavioral**: Purchase history, website activity, email engagement - **Psychographic**: Interests, preferences, values - **Lifecycle stage**: New subscriber, active customer, at-risk, churned

Advanced segmentation uses RFM analysis (Recency, Frequency, Monetary) to identify your most valuable customers and tailor messaging accordingly.

Examples

  • Send cart abandonment emails only to abandoners
  • VIP discount for customers who spent $500+ last year
  • Re-engagement campaign for subscribers inactive 90+ days
